Illinois Electric Works Vice President Trent Hamil walked students through preparing a personal balance sheet. He talked about and defined assets, liabilities and net worth. He informed students Illinois Electric Works has expanded five times and each time they obtained a loan from a bank. When loaning money, the bank always asks for a personal balance sheet. Trent encouraged students to always think about increasing their net worth and avoid debt as much as possible. Students finished and completed their personal balance sheet on Google sheets, which will be included in the appendix of their business plans for their start ups.
