Granite City CEO students joined Riverbend CEO students for a visit and tour at Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery on Thursday. Melissa Erker greeted students, directed them to a training room and told students the focus of Phillips 66 is to be a sustainable business environmentally, financially and socially. Phillips 66 owns 12 refineries and Jerry Doyle, Wood River Refinery Manager, spoke to CEO students, also. He talked about the Phillips 66 core values of safety, honor and commitment. Jerry’s biggest challenge is people and he encouraged students to keep their minds open, be able to communicate, be willing to always learn, have a great attitude and seize the moment. Jerry shared his career path in the oil industry and told students to always be willing to ask questions and get advice. CEO students boarded a bus and took tour through the refinery directed by Melissa Erker. Students were impressed with the massive structures, vessels, pipes, heaters and pumps. The Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery operates like a city with their own fire department, emergency response team and cafeteria. Thank you Melissa Erker and Phillips 66 for sharing your two mornings with CEO and for investing in our young adults.
