About Me
Hello! My name is Samuel Dickinson. I’m a senior at Arcola High School and a member of the Class of 2018. I live a few minutes outside of Arcola with my mother and father. I also have two older sisters, but they are both college graduates and have long since moved away. In school, I am a member of the scholastic bowl team and track team, as well as a former member of the AHS Marching Riders, concert band, and choir. Outside of school, my hobbies include computer programming, playing video games, and reading. I also spend time helping my parents with their business and working for them. I plan on studying computer science and/or software engineering after I graduate high school. I entered the CEO Program in order to learn more about how a business is run, gain useful skills that I can apply to any aspect of my life, and to strengthen my college applications.

"We visited Joe’s Pizza, a downtown Tuscola restaurant, on Thursday, February 15th. We met with Tony Vitale, the owner and head chef of the restaurant, and his wife, Sarah. Joe’s Pizza is a great example of a restaurant done right, and I learned that it has earned many awards and distinctions for its quality. It was explained to us that all of their food is made fresh, from scratch, in house, and the owners clearly took great pride in that fact. The owners also spoke to us about the importance of hard work. They explained that a good work ethic is one of the most important things you can have in life, and I agree."

"We were joined in the bank by the owners of Shelley’s Salsa on Monday, February 5th. They are a husband and wife team who started their own Salsa business. They told us the story of how they started the business, what challenges they faced (and still face), and how they got to where they area today. I found the whole class period really educational, and I’m sure my classmates did to. It was one of the first times we had heard of how a small business like that had been started, and it came at the perfect time, since we are all beginning to start our own small businesses."

"We were joined in class on Tuesday by Cory Kleiss, a Financial Manager for Edward Jones. He came to class to talk to us about investing and managing our money. He started off by explaining that you should always enough money to live for at least 3-6 months saved up before you even think about investing. After that, he went over many of the popular ways to invest your money, such as individual stocks, mutual accounts, and certificates of deposit. Investing is something I have always been interested in, and I really enjoyed our time in class on Tuesday.
