On Tuesday September 15th the Granite City CEO Program visited Revity Credit Union in Granite City. Our hosts, Amie Clemens and Lacy Able were great and told us about the history of Revity and how Credit Unions work.

The credit union was founded in 1941 by a group of steel workers as the Granite City Steel Employees Federal Credit Union. Although the name has changed over the past 85 years, the mission has not, putting members first, serving the community and coming up with innovative financial solutions.

They explained the differences between a bank and a credit union. That a credit union is owned by the depositors, which now number over 36,000. They are a non-profit organization which allows them to do things that banks cannot.

Something that sets them apart from other financial institutions is how they treat their shareholders/customers. Making legalese understandable and communicating and explaining what the issues are.
